Acclimating acropora plana to LED

I was wondering if it was okay to lay a small acropora colony on the sand bed during light acclimation. Just received a 3" tabling acropora (acropora plana) not attached to any rockwork. I am light acclimating it to my LED on the bottom of my tank but wasn't sure if it was okay to leave it laying on the sand bed or should I move it up and lay it on the rockwork. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
