I wanted to know how everyone acclimates there new leathers they get. Specifically to the water...(i.e. drip acclimation, just dump in?) I am getting on today and just want to check what everyone does?

I don't acclimate any coral. Just a once over for visible pests, a dip, and in.

what is the dipping for? ive always done it but never understood why i should

Make sure when you acclimate it to your QT, you match the pH, salinity and temp to yours in the QT.

What do you mean by "dip"? Still learning....but I slowly add water from my tank to the bag from the LFS, then after about 30 minutes, dump it in. Bad idea?

Honestly, the only thing I've acclimated corals for is Temp. just float the bag for 15 min. and drop them in... well, drop them in QT,, But if you don't have a coral QT tank, then do a search for dipping, and at least do some dips,, such as Lugols, or something,, anything...

but to answer your question directly - my leather I received, I just plopped it in...

Same as 2far, I just float the bag for 20 mins. QT it if its sps for redbugs for a few hours but if it's not sps, straight into the tank after the 20 min float.

Float for 15-20 for temp. Coral, fish, inverts. I tried the 45-90min drip for all and I have done without and haven't seen any difference. As long as the SG is not much different than say, 1.021 to 1.025 in SG, go for it.

Qt tank if possible. Float for 15-20 min. , dip, then into QT for observation. If you have ever had hitch hikers, you wouldn't take a chance!
