Acclimating Hammer/ frogspawn to Flow

Went to Reefapalooza today and picked up a couple frags to get my tank a little more populated. This tank has been up for 6 years and has been fish only, but I'm slowly adding corals.

For the last month I have been getting my chems stable, getting ready to start adding frags.

Ca: 420
Alk: ~10.2
Nitrate: <5 (vinegar dose last 6 months)
Salinity: 1.024
75g tank, 2x 250w MH +T5 fixture

I typically run my vortech at 70% reef crest and I have a Koralia 1050 on the other end. When I put a frogspawn and hammer in there neither of them liked it at all and shrunk up. I turned the flow down to 30% on the vortech and they began opening up more.

Question is, must I run it forever at 30% or can I eventually turn it up to 50% or so?

I thought so also, so I moved them to where I thought was better but it hasn't opened up since. I guess I'll see tomorrow how they look.

So I see euphilla right next to an acro... I will not say it is impossible but their flow requirements are usually mutually exclusive. You might try moving it further to the sheltered side of the rock and down a bit to see if it open's.

IMO. Looks like you have plenty of light. I would move them into the sand in the caves to protect them from the hard current. Keep them on the edge of the shadow to acclimate them slowly then move them out into the light.

I moved it back to the sandbed away from the center of the tank and they opened up a bit more.

Okay I will try to move them into the shadow for a couple days and slowly move them out and see how they react. For a more permanent location, would it be better to keep them towards the sides of the tank?

You may have to start with a bit lower flow, but in time Euphyllia can handle more flow than people think. Here's a good example;

+1 mine always closed up when they were anywhere in a lot of flow. I would tuck them where a rock would be between them and the power head that way they would get diffused flow. It seems they like to wave around, but not too much
