Acclimation system

Thinking of building an acclimation system utilizing a dosing pump. I think I could design a formula to determine a safe acclimation/dosing speed, maintain temp, aerate water, manage waste/overflowing water... Etc


I recognize that 99.999% of the people will think this is a bit crazy... But it's a hobby and this is fun, for me..


So, what do any of you have? Or think?

I do this with a Masterflex dual-head pump. One line to pull water from my display tank into the acclimation tank, and then the other line pulls water to a waster container. I have also just allowed the acclimation container to overflow into a waste container as well and it works great. Set it and forget it (well not for too long of course, lol)

And you could have a SG reading device hooked up to a controller to control the dosing flow. A bit over the top, but fun.

Damn... I have the GHL P3 ex. Toooooo. I can set it up to add that feature if I can figure out the controller setup .. Cool..cool..cool...

I've been thinking about one problem... The fish arrive in different volumes of water... Some of my LFS used really small bags and others use really large bags...

The system would be easier if the water volume that the fish arrived in was constant...

So my though is that I can create a holding box that has a marked volume of water. I can use displacement so I can dump the fish into the holding box...

To make this work, I would take high salinity tank water to fill the holding box and add RO/DI until the salinity was matched to the bag of water the fish arrived in... Then it could be a temp match by floating, dump the fish into the holding box and turn on the system...

Anyone see any issues with that?
