Aclimating Internet Clam

Most esteemed clam gurus I have some concerns that I am hoping are unfounded. :)

I received a crocea from an online order yesterday. The clam is about 3" long and was in a very small amount of water which was about 71F when the acclimation started. Over several hours (about 3.5) and lots of my tank water the acclimation container was up to 79F.

During this whole time the clam had just a tiny bit of mantle sticking out, not even enough to tell what color it is. Once we moved it over into my tank the cleaner shrimp, pepermint shrimp, and narssius (sp?) snails jumped all over this guy and wouldn't leave him alone.

Though this whole time the tank lights were off.

As soon as the clam hit the main tank and it started getting pestered it retracted all the way into the shell. It hasn't come out since.

After reading a bunch of threads last night about why the shrimps and snails would be doing this I moved the clam into a screened off container with holes in it to protect what ever is left.

I am worried that the low temps either fatally stressed the clam. Any thoughts?

Any thing else I can do? I am of course at work and thus don't have the tank parameters in front of me, but my tank has been up for over a year and I have been monitoring my tank and waiting for the time that I felt it could support a clam.

Here are some pics I took last night when I had the lights on for a few hours to see if I could entice the clam to come out. Thoughts, theories, criticisms welcome ;) (and I wish I had a clearer picture of the foot.)

Tank:
28g Nanocube with 150W 14K MH, bubs 3 months old
Livestock:
2 black ocellaris
1 yellow clown goby
1 cleaner shrimp
3 pepper shrimp
snails (stombus, astra, narssius, cerith)
and I think there's a hermit somewhere in there

From the top (is that green I see?!)

Heh, 28g and I've been wife-banished from drilling or overflows so I'm still searching for a good HOB fuge.

The clam is in the cut up orange juice container you can see in the background of the second pic with netting over the top to keep the rowdy shrimp in check.

Here is a crappy pic of the clam in it's protection container...the botom bubbles up so I can't keep it from leaning against the sides. I will be swapping that out with a soda bottle this afternoon.

Unfortunately no...The next morning it was obviously gone. I took it out of the tank and if my eyes were bad then my nose would have definitely warned me that something was wrong.

I think it simply got too cold on its journey from East Coast to West Coast. The packing was top notch and the bag water was only down to 72....some critters are stronger than others I guess.

I don't think the temp was a problem if the clam was healthy to begin with.
