I have had at least four or five of these little pests come in already living inside an acro skeleton, they look like tiny little salmon pink colored worms about 1/4" long.
Every time i find them they are inside the skeleton of the acro down about 1/8" deep and at the inside fork of a branch divide. I see the acro constantly annoyed with filaments out at just that one spot regardless if the rest of the acro looks happy. The small area where the worm is under will look like something is eating the tissue or there is a 'rot' infection just in that one little branch division.
You will know if you have a worm by simply doing this. Use a small diameter phillips head screwdriver to poke the area and if it is solid and the tissue damage is just on the surface with a hard skeleton below - no worm.
If the area collapses under the screwdriver you will see it actually bore a hole into the skeleton as if the area is rotten - not the tissue, the actual skeleton will dissolve when you use the screwdriver to twist and bore the entire spot clean until you have hit hard skeleton again.
Stick the nozzle of a super glue tube into the cleaned out hole and fill the entire spot with glue and that will be the end of it, they are killed when you grind out the rotten hole they make but the spot is a mess after you finish and leaving the hole isn't a good idea as crap will probably settle in it.
They aren't very common but are easily dealt with and always appear localized in one spot so don't freak out as they are not like AEFW's or bugs etc. Treat it like a bad tooth, clean out the crud and fill the hole - job done. :thumbsup:
