Acro on toxic frag plug?

Got an Acro the other day mounted on a plug that is the same color as a....clay pot?
Noticed that the frag has grown up and out and never laid a base. It got me thinking, could the plug be made of a material that was toxic to the coral? I have never seen this type of plug before and was wondering what everyone's take was on it.
As soon as the coral acclimates to my tank I think I'm going to take it and clip it away from this base and maybe mount it on a smaller plug?
What are everyone's thoughts?

I think if it was really bothering the coral it would be experiencing tissue necrosis from the bottom up. Lack of growing a base could be due to shading? Just a guess though.

That looks like it's mounted in a depression in the middle of the plug. I would use a nice new white flat topped plug to mount it on which will bounce some more PUR down low for a month or two until it encrusts or is covered with coralline algae.
It looks like it's growing in dark hole............:blown:

It is mounted in a depression style plug. My thoughts were to put it on a flat base plug, but just curious why it never laid a base.

I just introduced it to the tank so I placed it very low and in a somewhat shaded spot. As time progresses I will slowly move it to its slated spot higher in the tank.

So....has anyone seen this type of plug? Any idea what it could be made out of?

Not all acro frags lay base, especially if the frag is already big and can sustain itself without having to encrust, IMO small frags encrust better than the bigger frags . I've fragged big and small pieces from the same colony , bigger pieces usually just start growing upwards and smaller ones encrust first and then start growing .
