Acropora Identification

Hello, I originally posted this in reef discussion, but I dont seem to be having much luck getting any replies. I thought this may be a better location for this thread.

Ive got a few acros that I have not been able to identify.

The first is one I have had for a couple years now. It looks like crap because it barely survived a crash.

The second I got at a frag swap back in January. What you cant see that well in the picture is a dark red on the base, extending up towards the lower branches.

The third is one I got at my LFS a while back. It just started showing growth in the last month or two and seems to be a pretty slow grower.

These are the best images I have at the moment. I can try to get some better ones if needed.

Thanks

I found some old pics of the first one. Its not great quality but I think It gives a good picture of what it was like before the crash.

In this next one the coral is at the middle on the top of the pic

In this pic the acro is middle left of the pic

Like I said, the quality isn't the best, it didn't look as brown as it does in the picture. The coralites at the tips were more blueish with a slight purple tint.

Thanks

first one- growth looks a little like my miyagi tort from copps.

just looked on sd site and said that horrida looks similar. polyps of horrida extend during day, tortuosa's polyp do not.

I looked at the horrida and while it is similar, the growth structure doesn't match.

I'll have to look into the miyagi tort. The first one gets most of its PE at night.

Thanks for the replies.

The color and growth structure do seem very similar to the miyagi tort. Ill keep looking into it.

Still open for suggestions. Ill dig around and see if I can find any other pictures.

I doubt these will help, but they may give a better idea of what it was like when it was younger. They're just cell phone pics, so sorry for the quality.

Here's mine from copps

I can see that your radial corallites come off more at right angles...
BTW, I am no SPS expert.

It could be a tortuosa, but the Miyagi Tort is specific to that lineage. Unusual growth either way. Keep us updated.

I think that a tortuosa seems to be a good fit for this acro. I will keep you posted on the growth of the acro.
