Nice coral. If you're looking for feedback on the picture, to me, it looks a bit too sharp and low contrast. There's a lack of clarity, like the water was somewhat turbid. In the upper back portions, I'm seeing what looks more like noise than creamy bokeh, as though the ISO setting was too high. There's no EXIF info, so I can't see the settings you used to suggest improvements. I'd probably have cropped more of the right edge off as well.

Too sharp? It's tack sharp. Are you sure you should be offering photography advice?

The water was a little cloudy, but you are wrong about the noise.

ISO 100, 90 mm Tamron macro, tripod, remote shutter release. F16, 0.5 second exposure.

Yeah, I can hold my own. So thanks but no thanks.

Galleon, great shot of the chondro. Did you take that? I used to keep gtps myself.

If you can't "play nice" please don't play at all.

X2

(And you've got dust on your sensor)

Ok galleon, I also agree with beerguy and Reefbass. The over sharpening I see to towards the back where it starts to throw a whitish shadow before the blue. The snake pic is very good, but the acro, not so much. Kind of a bit over exposed also. You really can take all this any way you want. Getting snippy at Reefbass doesn't make much sense to me. You took the pic and posted it here. You must have expected comments. Guess they weren't what you expected.

galleon, I apologize if I offended you.

BTW, the snake pic is terrific. The eye is fabulous.

I had a boa as a kid that grew from 16" to 12 feet.

Comments sure, I'm not really interested in the critiques, and I didn't ask for them. This is a photography forum I posted a photo. Yep, there is dust on the sensor, and yep the water is hazy which is why it appears overexposed (but is not in fact).

No worries RB. Conditions make it impossible for me to take a better pic (mostly the water clarity at the moment). The pic isn't overexposed or over sharpened, and given that it was my first post in the photog forum I can understand the assumptions in your post. Sorry how I came across.

Sorry galleon, but you must understand, you realized the things we pointed out, we didn't know your thinking on them so we posted what we thought. This isn't like other photog forums where critique is asked for or not. Everyone feels free to offer what they see or even for that matter what they don't see. It was your first post here, but check around. We all regularly comment on what we see. As you are most welcome to do also.

Love the orchid and first flower shot. And welcome. :D

These are almost all over-sharpened, quite a bit actually. I agree that sharpening is a pretty subjective but it is something you might want to look at. One thing that can really help is to use selective sharpening rather than cranking USM on the whole image.

Cheers

P.S. - That first image IS slightly overexposed. The blue channel is clipped although the luminosity histogram probably looks fine because it's an average of the 3 channels. It's a pretty common issue with the lights we use in our tanks. Just setting the black point would also take care of the contrast.
