acropora tips turning white!

Are these new acros? Usually growth tips are white...I usually find the faster the growth the more white you'll get (for most acros).

Or do you think this is more a case of loss of color white?

The brown acropora is the one with the most white on the tips, the green one just started to turn white you can see the really bright spots that are white sorry I took the pic right after the halides turn off, this corals have only been in my tank for about a month there all situated half way on the live rock under 14000k 250 metal halide and 2 actinic HO!

The white tip from the brown SPS is most definitely new growth (you can see the polyps on all the tips as well). Congratulations! The reflection on the green one is a little hard to see but I am guessing new growth as well.

so if the tips are white but the polyps are there that means grow ok cool, I'm new to sps so I'm still learning, question what you guys mean by alk burn?

question what you guys mean by alk burn?

Alk burn is a condition where a sudden change (either spike or drop) of alkalinity or pro-longed exposure of low or high alk outside of the NSW level cause the SPS to bleach or lose flesh from the tips. For a sudden alk change, it can affect the corals quickly (days). However, if alkalinity is outside of the accepted range, it can take a long time (months) to weaken the corals. Many SPS reefers report alk burn after months of successful grow and suddenly started to loose corals left and right (either STN from the tips or base up) just to realize alk is off (bad test kits, bad batch of salt, doser mal-function, etc).

All these conditions are more or less categorized under alk burn.
