Hey everybody..
I check the forums every so often but never see much activity in the ACROS club. I know the TBRC is much bigger and probably draws reefers from our area but it would be cool to see more from the local club. Do you guys meet on a regular basis or anything? I'd like to know more...

I have no idea what happened to this club. It used to be very active 3 years ago.

There is a frag auction this weekend in Ft Myers. It will be well worth your drive south to pick up some frags.

we tried last year to get this club active again with not much luck. the problem is no one wants to head up the club and organize things.

Next month is the Multi-club Frag Swap/Auction/BBQ @ Brians. Maybe after this we can get together @ mote marine or find a spot and do some collecting.

I have no idea on where to collect in the Sarasota/Charlotte area.

It would be nice to have a local group that could meet occasionally but maybe there is not enough support as evidence by the amount of response to this thread.: It's not something I could take on myself but I would be up for helping out to put something together.

Stymee..I know of a new store and owner that would love to host meetings..lol

I would be interested in a club but i too havent seen much posting on this board in the last few years. So I mosey on over to the tampa one and read their forums. I would love to go to a meeting but tampa seems a little to far for me to drive. It would be nice to have a meeting club local. I am sure there are alot of people in Palmetto, Bradenton, Sarasota, Venice area that are into saltwater tanks. A local club would introduce us to each other and maybe swap frags and such.

Snuggle there is no doubt that there is a lot of people who feel the same as you about a local club. The problem still lies with no one wants to organize club events And with out that someone the club doesn't exist. If you look back through our page you will find the last attempt to get something going..I would be interested in hosting a meeting or two per year. And I'm sure there are others who will allow us to hold meetings at there homes. But we still need that someone to organize it all.

I would be afraid to organize it. I tried to organize one when i used to live in Alabama and it was a disaster. People said they would show up and nobody did but it was more because the store owner was being a bit difficult and "forgot to let his customers know we had a new club in the area starting up and having our meeting there" It was like total war of the LFS's and i got dragged in the middle. All wanted to host and said they would love to let us meet there but then they were fighting over who would go first and then when i picked one for the date of store availability the others backed out the next month and so on but didnt bother to let me know they wouldnt let me host it so they didnt pass out fliers i left or even tell customers about the meetings. it all came down later that they were fighting cause one store stole the info of where the other store got their livestock and were just taking it out on our club since one of the members was the one they thought was the rat.. who knew he was a ups delivery guy. :( and talked way too much for his own good. but the one i did get hosted first was a decent turnout. I had a demo of how to split a mushroom to make two new ones and we had a frag swap.
actually i think that may have been the second meeting. but the ones after were a no show cause of lack of interest and the store not willing to get the word out too. so after a couple of attempts we all gave up and disbanded.

Did anyone from ACROS attend the frag swap lats week in Ft Myers?

The Ft Myers Club holds 2 auctions a year, they are usually in Oct and April. The Oct. meeting has more frags from ppl. in the Ft Myers club, and the last one I attended in April has coral venders from all over Fla.

In November, there will be a multi club BBQ in Nokomis. I'm about 95% sure it will be Saturday, November 12.

I would recommend trying to get as many from the Sarasota area together at that time and see if you can get things going.

There will be lots of people from SWFMAS and TBRC there as well. If it follows the last two years, nearly all of the BOD from both clubs will be present. Feel free to ask lots of questions.

FYI, I remember one meeting our first year, we had 2 people and the speaker. But, we kept going. SWFMAS will be 5 years old next March. We are now up to +/- 130 paid members and an average monthly meeting attendance of 30+. It takes time and you will need someone who is not afraid to"push" to keep things going the first year or two until the club gets established.

Ok, Sounds like there is a little interest out there but we need someone to put it together. We have two stores volunteering to host a couple meetings. jdhuyvetter - Good idea to get input from the other clubs BOD.

Any Volunteers to captain this vessel?

Well, I talked to Sue over the weekend (President of TBRC). It looks like all of the TBRC BOD will be there as well as all of the BOD from SWFMAS. There are usually a few ORCA members around and it looks like there might be one or two from FMAS that make the trip this year.

I know there are a couple of "new" clubs as well that will probably have some members present (MORE, SHARK and FRAG).

It would be interesting to have a sign in sheet to see where everyone is from. Maybe even a group pic!?
