Acros for FREE!!

I have made good friends with a LFS owner who has just started up in the last couple months. He order probably 20 small acro colonies that were at least 5" to 7" tall with multiple branches. He sold a few and then had about 5 die. Well last night I was over there and he asked me if I wanted the all that was left because he did not want them to die. Of course I said yes. It seems that his system these were in is just to young for them. They have no bugs! Anyway I get about 10 colonies for free. They are quite bleached and I was wondering what I could do to help save them. Some still show a light blue tips and some are still a neon green but they are faded.

Thanks.

Well you could ship me several of the colonies for safekeeping allowing you to concetrate intently on the remaining ones!

What to do to help save them...

* provide good water quality
* provide for calcium/alk/pH requirements
* provide adequate lighting, but don't put them too close to the light right away...they probably need time to acclimate
* provide stable temperature
* provide good flow, but not direct current

very good advice Rendos.. perhaps even include some good quality foods and I think I read somewhere that phyto can assist with repopulating the zooanthelles (if they are as bleached as he stated). But I wouldn't put too much stock in the phyto thing :). Still, if they are bleached, good quailty coral foods will help sustain them until they can get back "on their feet".

Ditto above, add don't ship right now.

Heal them Reverend! At least don't stress them again now, it would be too much me thinks.

If you like where they are placed currently, you're probably better off leaving them where they are in your tank until they now recover. I think the less you move them around now, the less stressed they'll be, and the greater chance they'll have of surviving. If you're not happy with the flow in a certain area, move a powerhead around, not the coral. IME, I've had luck "saving" colonies by just leaving them be.

Hey all thanks. Ok it was a total of 9 colonies, and it looks like 4 are going to make a full recovery. 2 May make it, and 3 are basically gone. On the upside the 2 of the ones that are going to make it are a whitish color with blue tips and yellow poylps. ;)

I will get pics when i can.
