acrylic rods

Everytime I do a waterchange and I lift the rocks up, I see a whole bunch of waste on the sand. I was thinking about using acrylic rods to lift the rock off of the sand so the waste doesnt get trapped. Good idea or bad idea?

Also, anyone know a reliable source to purchase these acrylic rods?

alright so i think I can manage the $.11 a foot but what is the best way to cut the rods to the right size?

I bought fiberglass rods from Lowes next to the for sale signs. I then just cut it with a hand saw. A hack saw would also work.

Anthony Calfo discusses this in his book. He shows a reef that appears to float over the bottom of the tank. Very cool looking and obviously highly functional.

how did you do that flyyyguy?

1/2' scrap, 3/4" rod from mcmaster carr, and weld on

table saw, bench grinder, drill press.

the rods are not glued in place nor do they need to be, they just sit in their holes.

This was my old lifted rock free flow program.......

That what I always did with my rocks... I do this with my bare bottom tanks also. But I just drill holes in the rocks and use some epoxy to hold them in... I bought mine on ebay..
