I have a 500 gallon tank full of large fish. It's been stable for about two years now i.e., everyone gets along and the fish don't die or get sick. Anyway, I recently created a large scractch with my magnet. How do I repair the scratch? Is there a way to safely repair w/o removing the fish? If not, how do people repair large tanks?

Yes, you should be able to easily (well...simply) polish out that scratch using very fine grade wet sandpapers available from Everclear.

I use the ones that are designed to work with a magnet cleaner, but I find it simpler to just attached the pad to the magnet...reach in the tank... and use the inner magnet like a sanding block.
