Acrylic

If I were say in the Cedar Rapids area and wanted to say buy some acrylic just to see if I could build myself somethings out of say 1/8" acrylite where would I go and how much does it cost? How do you buy it the places I seen on dexonline were Seelye plastics in hiawatha and Regal Plastics in Waterloo. I'd prefer to not bother them if anyone has bought acrylic in the past.

I'm thinking if it would be worth my time to build my own sump or just break down and let Hung do it :P I'd reckoning that it'd be worth my time to just pay Hung and get it over with cause I suck at DIY but yet I still like to think that some day I'll be handy to keep around. Cause like Red Green always says, "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

Yah, Melev's reef said that lowes etc is just plain plexiglass? It will turn brittle, colors and crack.

Found a place online and I dunno if it is the right stuff or not but a 2' x 4' section of 1/8" cost $30 and that's not including any delivery fees so I guess that could be a rough estimate.

In the end, I'd have to say it isn't worth it for a novice to mess with acrylic since I'd have to buy a lot of other stuff to even begin to play with it :P

Not sure... it warped on me as just a cover.... SOM gets his in 4' x 8' sheets and it does NOT do any bad things.

yah that stuff from HD is just cheapo plexiglass then. I'm gonna tell Hung to build one for me as long as I can make sure it will fit the new skimmer etc in it and I can see the plans before I buy it. The one he had down there was already hooked up to the system so I'd need to go down there and take my measurements to h im and decide if I want to put it under the tank or behind the tank.

I have about 4' clearance between the wall and the tank right now so I can get behind it the tank if I need more room. It just makes accessing it a little more difficult.
