acryllic thickness for a mantis.. prob a peacock if all goes well.

while i'm in wichita next week i'm going to stop by a place called The Yard which always has tons of cheap acryllic in all shapes, colors, and sizes.

Thanks to Steve feeding our club mascot everytime we go to GWA.. my wife finally said she wants one.. wahoo!

so, i'm going to build a custom acryllic tank for him/her. sort of like a nano-cube with a back area for heater/pumps..

suggestions on size of tank and thickness of acryllic. i want this to be plenty big so i dont have to upgrade.

guess i'm jumping on the bandwagon!

I just got back from cruising the mantis forums.. looks like 26g min.. wonder if that could be manipulated by changing the tank lenght/width. not much info on that in the forums. wonder if its a volume / bioload issue or a size / roaming room issue.. meaning would cube be better then long.. or is it just what ever i prefer..

you have less room for error if you use 3/8 acrylic

if the joint isnt clean and in a true cut than you will have bad joints

I had mine in a 20 gallon long and he did just fine. I still have the 20L if you need it. Just needs to be cleaned up a bit....

I appriciate the offer but this also gives me a chance to try my hand at acryllic. so hopefully if all goes well i'll use the one i make.. but i typically take several times to get it right so i might be PM'ing you

yeah, i was going to PM you about that. I need to call them and ask how much it is a bag. I believe they are out of Lenexa, KS which is just south of KC on i-35 i typically go right thru it.

I made a sump about the size you indicate and it was all 1/4 and it was fine. the only thing I'd mention is it was cast, not extruded. That does make a difference but probably not *that* much on a small tank like this. I would recommend eurobracing or a solid top with cut-outs though. Let me know if I can help!
