Interesting color being shown here. Look kinda funky; any suggestion? What am I doing wrong? All these pics were taken under a VHO Actinic Blue light. I try to use the flash; but it keep bouncing back to the len :(

Hi hogall,

this is a common problem when taking photo's under actinic lights. you need to play around with the white balance

What camera are you using?

Depp

Hi Depp

I am using a Nikon D300 with a 60mm f/2.8G Macro len :D I am a newbie at this, thanks for the tip.

Hi mtrull1515

Thanks, I love the tinted green look but not the background :)

You've got the right equipment. check.

there is nothing wrong with the pictures as such. great focus. nice DOF. the green is amazing. it just is very blue. this has to do with the white balance setting on the camera. (and the light in the tank)

First question; do the photo's represent what you see in the tank? if you put them side by side do they look the same? Is the camera making it more blue, less blue?

Try shooting in RAW format. if you are using something like photoshop to do post-processing you'll find you can change the white balance without "damaging" the photo.

Another option is to crop these more without the space around the coral.

don't worry about using a flash. 99% it doesn't work and everything looks washed out

can you post some more pics this time with your other lights on as well as the actinic?

These are taken with 12k reeflux. Not as blue, looks better? Comments are welcome :D

yea dennis, these look better. the 12k's bring back the natural colour of the bonsai.

the morning star looks fantastic. this is a perfect use for an actinic shot. looks radioactive!

personaly i would crop all these closer to the subject. and increase the DOF on the war coral to include a bit more of the front.

the macro lens does a nice job

Thanks bdepp

Yes, the whiter light make a better shot. I was afraid to change the setting on the camera. But, I guess that is how I will learn. :D

Thanks again for your feedback
