*Actual* rating for an MR-2

Hey everyone,

I have an MR-2 that has been out of comission for months now.

Needless to say, my tank has a little nutrient problem, and I am losing some sps from the tips.

I have repaired my MR-2 (I had to seal the inside of the box with Weld-on 16) and am going to set it back up tonight.

What do you think the actual rating of the MR-2 beckett skimmer is when driven by a GenX PCX 40 (same as an MD55 iwaki)?

I get oodles of nasty skimmate, but I want to strip the water as much as possible. I have a 180 gallon tank.

Thanks,

Jamie

A friend of mine runs a dual Beckett MR-2 on his 180g with no problem. Andy, the owner of My Reef Creations is very trustworthy when it comes to verifying size compatibilities.

Edit: Now if you want to "Strip" the water as you say, then I would look into a Deltec. Ihave read some crazy things about those skimmers. So much so that some claim it has diminished their Red Bug populations. Stripped the water so much that the little buggers have nothing to eat. Sell me your MR-2 set up and go get yourself a stripper!! Tell your wife I said it's ok!!

Did your friend use the extention tube too, or just the standard height with two injectors?

I would love a deltec, but I doubt you'd buy my mr-2 for $1000 so I can go buy one :)

No extension tubes I don't think. He is a member here, but hasn't been around lately. He bought the MR-2 about two years ago or so.

A Deltec will get rid of Acro Red Bugs...

Now theres a claim I've never heard.

I read it in the Deltec Forum. I'll go cruising and see if I can see it again. The person who made the comment whispered it, but others resonded and agreed to a certain extent.
