ADA 120P Drilled Reef Tank Build

Well I changed up the rock work a bit, although still fairly close to before, I cant bring myself to remove much rock. I attempted to add more depth and make the rock move up towards the back so I can add more coral. Thoughts?

Here are the returns.

I closed off the two returns in the back, so I now only have these two up front. I've also changed my mind on the OM Squirt and think a Vortech would be better. I've tried pointing the two returns to the outside walls and also towards the middle as they are now. What do you think about leaving the returns pointed towards the middle with one Vortech where my temporary Koralia is located? Any other ideas for flow? I dont know if I can bring myself to buy an MP40 since this little Korialia is blowing sand and the price for an MP40 is just silly. I might go for an MP10, anyone want to talk me out of it?

Much better, gives it a clean look.:) if you need more real-estate up top look for flat pieces that can go on top of what you already have (if that makes sense). Very nice build.

Kodiak,

This is one of my favorite ADA tanks on ReefCentral. Very impressive, clean build. Props for drilling this tank! Can't wait for my 120P to come in now!

God, each time I see this tanks pictures im blown away. The way the crystal clear glass and reefbrites make the rippling effect on the wall behind just makes it look like you are looking off into the deep blue yonder! Im a huge fan! Hope to see an update soon on this one!

Thanks guys for the nice comments; definitely a work in progress. It's been a couple months and lots has changed, my SPS were not doing great, so I purchased an MP10, which then started blowing all my sugar fine sand around, so I ended up changing out the sand to a courser grain (Tropic Eden Reeflakes). This gave me a chance to change up the aquascape a bit (hopefully for the last time). Things seem to be stabilizing; all my parameters are staying consistent. I ended up getting a few zoas and acans to test the waters a bit more before getting some new SPS in the coming months.

I think this is phenomenal and I don't know why more people don't do a build like this. Personally, I prefer to hide as much tank equipment as possible.

I'd like to do a similar build but I'm having trouble searching for how to do it.

I know that you have a pvc aquarium stand pipe sump overflow but that's not giving me good search results.

Are there any resources that can show me what I need for bulk heads, pvc attachments, etc?

How is your overflow in terms of noise? Is it pretty quiet?

I originally got the idea from this thread and yes the overflow is very quiet, cant hear it at all. I originally decided on this type of overflow because I wanted my tank viewable from both sides, but ended up having it against the wall, so wish I would have opted for an external overflow. Let me know if I can help when you get your tank started.

SPS are finally in the tank!!! I've changed a ton over the last couple of months to prepare my tank for SPS and I feel I am finally ready. I've added 10 or so SPS frags over the last few weeks and they all seem to be doing great, only time will tell.

*New lights - 3-48" Reef Bright XHO Led strips (2 blue and 1 white)
*Added an MP40 to go along with my MP10
*Started Bio-pellets
*Started running filter socks
*Switched to Red Sea Salt Pro
*Added dosing pumps for B-Ionic 2-part

And much more.....

Here is a quick untouched photo from an iphone.

Looks good I would drop the rock scape on the left side by 6" for grow out! IMO. love the tank where did you purchase @

Reallly nice tank, one thing that caught my attention are your return lines. With them so low, I'm assuming you are running check valves? If so, what if they went out during a power outage, does your sump have enough capacity to hold the main tanks water down to that point?

Thanks, I would love to drop the rock scape as well, but just have it higher there to cover the standpipes. I got the tank at the ADA shop in SF.

My sump is my old 30 gallon tank, so no room for the main tanks capacity. I do have a check valve and test by simulating a power outage every once in a while. My next tank will probably have a higher return, although I have had zero issues with the current set up.

That looks much better. You can fill the left side up with tabling and branching sps and caps. It will fill in and look really nice.

Nice use of an ADA tank. Did you put an overflow on the left back corner? And, why did you finally decide to do that? Thanks.

Thanks. Yes decided to build an overflow for the back left corner. Wanted to open up the middle of the tank. Definitely glad I moved the overflow to the corner.
