Well it's been a year now since I set up my 65 Gallon mixed reef. Added an Octopus Xtreme skimmer to replace the dud of a skimmer Coralife made. Upgraded to 2 250w halides (Used) and eventually even got new bulbs for them! Just recently added 2x39w HOT5 actinics (a great decision!).

I've had some MAJOR battles with hair algae. It was sometimes bad enough I considering tearing it down. Just in the last month or two I feel I've gotten a foothold, and I have the algae at bay...for now. BUT I never turn my back completely, and I won't be early to celebrate. Anyone who's had hair algae can attest to the fact that it'll always come back in a BIG way just when you think you've beat it.

And like everyone elses tank it ebbs and flows. Sometimes she looks gorgeous, other times you're ashamed of her. This week is a good week, and all the corals are doing well, and I gathered the motivation to really clean the glass...so this seemed a good time to get a few good pictures.

Here she is Last April just after being set up...

It's been a journey, and it's always a financial strain. Being a poor college kid I don't have the money to throw at my tank that some do. And managing the fish department at Petland gives me endless temptations that keep my credit card tingling. haha but I feel like it's going in a good direction and the pleasure is worth the torment when it comes to this hobby.

And I got a few good ones of my Banghais as well. With any luck they're a pair, but I can't sex fish to save my life. (Battling that same problem with my Apistos and Rams...but that's for a different forum.)

Not yet. I have a brand new PhosBan reactor in the box...sitting...waiting. I just haven't hooked it up yet. Probably tonight...

Get on it man! You could also concider doseing a carbon source like vodka or vite C. That's what I have been doing with great results.

Not to much to it and it is verry efective. I just totaly rebuilt my system and have been doseing sence I got it back up and running check out my build thread on this forum. I just added some update pics. And you can verry clearly see the color difference in the coral.

Yeah you got a some magic potion, or lucky charm or something. Brother you can grow some coral!

There's a few corals in this tank from you. The Red Cap, the green pavona on the far right side, that staghorn that we ALL have...hehe

Nope no magic just 10 years of experence paying off. Oh and the carbon doseing :-) If you do try a carbon source be sure and add a bio additive like microbacter7 and ameno acids are good to add to.

I noticed those from the pics. I had a colony of that stag that was about 10inches in diamiter then it started to STN from the middle so I fraged it into about 3 pieces. That was about 4 months ago and now the piece I keept is almost that big as the origenal piece.

Yeah and I haven't been to very many GIRS events, and I'd really like to get more active in the club. Unfortunately this ones not in the cards.

Just bring me back something nice. haha

Nice adam! Your specimens are looking very nice. However I can see that I need to come take some good pictures for you! lol
