I'm fighting some dinos and I'm losing. It's time to throw everything I can at these little beasts.
I'm considering adding an inline UV filter into the mix. The last time I had one was about 30 years ago. It was a little thing I occasionally used if I had a "green water" bloom occur, and maybe once or twice a year as a preventive treatment.
My sump area is getting crowded and it would far more do-able to put one in front of an ozone reactor I have fired up. Is that a bad/ineffective idea? Putting it between my return pump and the tank is pretty much a can't do.
I'm considering either one of the Emperor Aquatics from BRS or a Aqua UV brand from Marine Depot. Either would be the 25 watt versions.
I really need to attack these things on all fronts. So far I've raised the pH to between 8.2 and 8.4 depending on the time of day. And I've cranked up the ORP count to 360-380, although I don't trust my Apex/"BRS probe" readings. ATO water is run thru a kalk reactor. I have been adding a 10mL dose of MB7 daily, less skimmer for 3 hours. I run carbon after the ozone reactor, I use hi-cap GFO, and am currently dosing 4mL/day of NoPox. Aquamax CO-2 skimmer. Thinking it's time for a three day total blackout and maybe trying something like AlgaeX before/after addition of UV.
The tank finished cycling two months ago. 95 total net gallons. Turnover from tank to sump is between 600-700 gph. Nitrate and phosphate readings dropped to zero once the dinos kicked on. Magnesium is 1350-1380. Strong current w/ two MP40's and two RW-8's. The few SPS I've added and a couple of leathers are not looking happy. The LPS seem content.
Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.
