Adding a second clown??

I would like to add a second Ocellaris to my 37 gallon. I currently have a 2" clown, a Carpenters Wrasse and a Royal Gramma. They all get along great. If I add a small clown to the mix I am afraid that either the bigger clown will kill the smaller one. Or the two Clowns will find love and proceed to terrorize the other fish. What in your experience will be the final out come?? Thanks. R

It is best to add the 2 clowns at the same time. If you can get the clowns to pair up they should not terrorize the other fish, they will be to busy staying within close proximity to one another. My suggestion is get rid of the clown you have now and get 2 that are in the same tank at the store.

But she/he is such a cutie. When you put your arm in the tank, it will swim right in your hand. R

You can certainly add another clown to pair with your current clown. Make sure it is a juvenile and smaller than the current one you got. The sticky at the top of the forum has more details on how to pair them up.

I would be more concerned with how the clowns will act with each other. I have been asking around about this as well. I have a juvenile percula about 1" and wanted to add a second percula to the tank. Its really hit or miss with this they will either get along, or they will not. If they do the other fish should be okay as long as they stay out of the clowns territory.

Have you thought about getting an anemone, or a surrogate anemone. That should keep the clowns occupied if they take to it.

Good Luck!!!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about an A. Ocellaris terrorizing the tank. I have not seen very aggressive behavior at all with my ocellaris... except with the female making sure the little guy knows who is in charge :-)
