Adding a stage to my existing RO/DI system

So I recently found out my city uses chloramines and does occasional mineral dumps that I'd rather not have in my tank, should I be making water at that time. I have a Spectrapure 4-stage RODI system and I'm thinking off adding on another carbon block. A ChlorPlus carbon block.

So if I have this correct, I'd need to buy another canister on a separate bracket. Then re-route the tubing so the water goes through all three canisters on my existing system, then through the RO membrane, then through the add-on canister (now containing the DI resin)?

Sediment filter
Catalytic Carbon
ChlorPlus Carbon
RO Membrane
DI resin

Yes? I've also seen systems where the Chlorplus is actually the very first filter. Like with this big guy. Thoughts?

I know chloramines damage membranes but as far as what order you put them, I don't think it matters as long as it's before the membrane.

Most membranes state that they need pre-membrane filters to remove particles above 5 microns. I'm a HUGE fan of the 10 micron / 5 micron / 1 micron / Membrane / DI - But I have noticed that several top names are jumping down to 1 micron and skipping the 10 / 5 - IMO you are prematurely clogging your micro filter. You need to knock it out in steps and since a quality 10 Micron filter runs $3-$4 it's a no brainer.

If you only have 4 stages now, yes you will need to buy another stage and plumb it accordantly, for the initial investment, I would add two stages (run you an extra $20.00 startup cost) and run the following:

Stage 1: 10 Micron Sediment Filter (6000-9000 Gallon) $2.95
Stage 2: 5 Micron Coconut Carbon Block Filter (9000 Gallon) $9.95
Stage 3: Catalytic Carbon Filter
Stage 4: 1 Micron Coconut Carbon Block Filter (9000 Gallon) $12.95
Stage 5: Membrane
Stage 6: DI Resin

2 stage with bracket:

Chloramine Filter:

If you didn't want to add the two stages, go in this order:

Stage 1: 10 micron
Stage 2: Catalytic Carbon Filter
Stage 3: 1 Micron
Stage 4: RO
Stage 5: DI

but the better quality water going to the RO, the longer the membrane will last, same as the better the water going to the DI, the longer the resin will last.

Hope this helps,
