Adding a sump to a non reff ready tank

Hello All

I have a 55 gallon acrylic tank that is not reef ready.

It has been setup for out 4 months was wondering if I can drain the tank halfway drill a whole, add a bulkhead and refill the tank?

some one else will need to chime in but if your going to drill a whole might as well do 3 and install a coast to coast over flow. your acrylic tank will make this much easier then a glass
