im going to add a sump to my tank, and need to get a hangon overflow. ive read good things about the lifereef overflow. does anyone have any experience with these? i looked at premium aquatics and marine depot for the lifereef overflow and didnt see them. where can i get one? if theres a better one out there, let me know. i want to get a good one, so i can hopefully avoid a disaster. thanks.

look in the used equipment and dry goods selling forum. Overflows are way way way way way way over priced. I would never but one new. 45-65 $ for a littl plastic box with a hole in it.... I have one that i would sell for really cheap but i don't think its big enough for you tank

They want 109.00 for a single overflow i can't belive that any one woud pay that just not right lol

It would handle about ~500-650gph it has a 1 inch bulkhead

I have a tidepool sump to that goes with it if you want them you can have them both for 50$ or the overflow for 25. I used a mag 5 pump which is 500gph and it worked great.

There is the sump, its the version 1 not 2 i can't find the overflow any where i got it local. Its very well made it has screws so you can adjust how high you want the water level to be in the tank. Its made from thick acrilic not that cheep black plastic. The tidepool comes with a bio wheel which as i recall at very expensive to buy but you will not need one mine has one with it.

I don't recommend overflows for reef tanks anymore unless there is no other choice, but I can tell you there are several models out there and that every one is built different. I suggest reading about past experiences with certain models and brands before buying one. Better safe than flooded.

i used mine for over 2 years and never had one problem with it. I wouldn't worry about flooding with it.

I've used mine for over two years and I run 2 return pumps on it. It's a dual overflow much like two engines on a jet, it can still function if one pump goes out, or an air bubble stops the siphon in one of the return tubes. This layout has worked at least three times so far and without the second overflow pipe or pump I would have had a mess. IMO your playing Russian roulette it you don't use two pumps and a dual overflow on a non-drilled system.
Best of luck either way, just my observation.
