Adding another system

Please help. I have a 75 reef with a sfe that is now starting to knock everything down and I want to set up a 50 breeder beneath my 75 for him. My question is, would it be possible for me to link the two systems for extra water volume in each. I have sort of figured out how to make a sump but how can I do it. I have thought about using a canister with splitters in the intake and outtake but not sure if it will work. Please all suggestions welcome.

The easiest option would be to use the 50 breeder as a sump and divide off a section for the return. Another would be to set the 50 breeder up next to the 75 and plumb both tanks to the same sump.

The issue with plumbing both to a sump and having the 50 underneath the tank is that unless you have an astonishingly tall tank there won't be enough space for gravity to pull water out of both tanks and put it to the sump.

If you must plumb the two together like this. You should look at a standard 20 gallon as the sump. Plumb an internal overflow on the 50 and raise it up several inches above the top of the 20 (setting it on bricks or 4X4's would do it. This will allow you to gravity feed into the 55 and from the 55 into the 20 gallon sump. This is not the best solution but it would work.

Have you consired restacking your reef with concealed pvc pipe to provide cover for the eel?

I tried the pvc pipe, hes not bad I really love the guy. He only has one eye and was starving to death at a small pet shop that was feeding him flakes. I didnt even have a saltwater setup the day I bought him and no clue on how to set one up either. I ended buying one of those eclipse 30s at PETCO and did it all the same night. Well I caught the bug and have know upgraded twice but I think that I would really like to get him his own place again where he can knock things over and make it as messy as he wants.

I wouldn't link the systems simply because it's an eel involved.
They are escape artists and they can crawl right up the plumbing connecting the systems.
