Right Now I have 45lbs of rock and wanted to buy base rock from hirocks.com now can I remove my live rock and then put the new base rock into the sand and put my live rock on it without disturbing my tank?

I have only the following in it:

Brittle star
snails Mixed turbo nassarius, astrae

Add all the base rock you wish DrillSarg. The only thing about removing the existing LR is to not disturb the DSB if you have one. I'd say with about a 3 to 4 ratio the base rock should be covered in coralline in under 4 months.

I did the same thing recently in my tank. Added 60lbs of hirocks to about 70 lbs of Fiji live back in December. I pulled out some of the bigger pieces of LR for a few minutes (put them in buckets of tank water) while I placed the hirocks. Then put the live stuff back on top. Seemed to work pretty well. The hirocks are already turning purple with coraline. I figure in a couple of more months, you won't be able to see much difference between the rocks.

Make sure you clean the hirocks well before putting them in the tank. Even after thouroughly rinsing mine and letting them air dry, I ended up with a good bit of muddiness / cloudiness from the hirocks. It all settled after a while, but looked pretty murky.

Regards,

Yeah, you'll be fine, they'll be corralined over in NO time flat, just keep your calcium levels up.

I just used tap water and let the rocks air dry for about a week. If you're going to tank them immediately, I would use dechlorinated to be safe.

My hirocks were pretty well caked with dried mud and dust when I got them -- if it hadn't been snowing here, I would have taken them outside and hosed them off. I ended up making a mess in our utility tub...

You really don't need to use any special water for washing base rock. Even un-chlorinated tap is fine. Just let them dry before adding them to your tank.

You can place the rock on the sand or, if you have digging fish, press some PVC pipe, cut just shorter than the top of the bed, into the sand to lay the rocks on.
