adding buffer

well my alk was low and calc. was high so I have added some kent buffer to start to equal it out and know it is looking like my clam is going to the big tank in the sky would that kill it or would it be something else it was doing great before this. have had it for almost a year know and if it is almost dead how long should it be left in the tank before it dies and starts to polute the tank thanks for any input rob

How low was it, and for how long? If you radically changed the chemistry too quickly instead of doing it gradually, that chould also be a problem.

I only added what bottle said like 3 caps on the 16 oz bottle. It was really low but the clam was fine it must of dropped slowly enough not to bother it because it was doing great and now I just pulled it out of my tank
