Adding chromis to existing pair?

When we setup our 125 gallon tank about a year ago, we introduced a group of five chromis. One by one, the group isolated one fish at a time which eventually died. Then there were two.

I've heard this is not uncommon. I'm wondering, is there a way to establish a school? Especially since we already have two? Should we introduce a larger number, an odd number, or simply give up on the idea and leave the two we have alone?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

My group was down to three, I just added four more to the mix two weeks ago and they are doing fine.

IME buy twice as many as you want to end up with. They have a 50% die off/fight rate.

i have a pair, added 10 more about a month ago and am back down to the pair. my original pair killed them all off one by one, my bubble tip loved it. After the chromis's killed the new one's my clownfish pulled the dead ones in my anemone to eat!! expensive fish food!! i heard its 50/50 though you may have better luck than me. im not doing it again , i'll stick with the pair. good luck

We've been goin up and down w/ our number of chromis's that we have. we finally were down to two but a couple weeks ago bought six more and everyone seems to get along so far.
