Adding creatures/corals during fallow time?

When ich is in its cyst stage it can attach to live rock and even snail shells. So for example, if you add a coral that is attached to a piece of rock that was housed in a system with fish it can reintroduce ich and restart your fallow. To be super safe, almost everything needs to be quarantined 10-12 weeks. Corals need to be quarantined in a fishless tank.

I thought the fallow period was to get the ick to die as it has no host. It can't use the corals and inverts as a host so leaving your existing inverts etc in the DT or adding new ones is not an issue

It's true that adding corals or inverts might introduce 'new' ick to the tank but that's true whenever you add them. The purpose of the fallow period is to rid the tank on the 'existing' ick

Yes, I agree, the existing ich will die off during the original fallow time frame no matter what corals you add as they have no host. But like you said, any new inverts can introduce new ich, though probably only a small chance unless it came from a heavily infected tank.

I was just talking in terms of being 100% sure no ich remained in the tank when the fish were put back in. To be 100% sure you would need to restart the fallow clock when anything attached to substrate was added to the tank.

I personally just started a fallow period in my tank so I have been reading up on it. Quarantining all news corals for 10-12 weeks is a pain in the butt and I bet most don't have the means or patience to do it. I have not even decided myself yet if I want to do that or just take the chance.

Adding corals to fallow tank..

Adding corals to fallow tank..

Sorry, but I'd like to open this discussion again. I'm totally new to reef keeping. I have a 75g tank that has completed its cycling:
Ammonia (NH3/NH4): 0 ppm
Nitrite (N02): 0 ppm
Nitrate (N03): 0 ppm
pH: 8.2
Alkalinity (dKH): 10 or 179 ppm KH
As of today.

I did a lot of research before adding any fish to my tank. My mistake was that I didn't have a QT, and added a Flame Angel 2 weeks ago that exhibited a severe case of ich the day after I added him to my DT. I was able to return him to the LFS, but now some of my other fish have symptoms. Namely my Yellow Tang and Indian Yellow Tail Angelfish.

I've learned my lesson about quarantining now, and am setting up a hospital tank for all of my fish. In addition to the Tang and Angel, I have 2 clowns, 4 chromis, 2 blue damsels, a lawnmower blenny, a diamond goby, and 2 neon gobies. I also have a fire shrimp and small rose bubble.

I wanted to add corals to my tank, and was waiting for the Nitrate levels to get down to zero before adding them. (Yes, I know that angels are not reef friendly, and I hope to get a much larger FOWLR tank in the near future.) Now that the Nitrate levels are down to zero, would it be ok to add corals while the fish are in quarantine and my tank is recovering?

Thanks for any advice.
