Adding new fish...

Hi, i have a 50gallon tank with only a pair of clownfish (which are breeding) and 2 GBTA's (one split into 2) for over a year. I would like to add a yellow tang to my tank, but I know clownfish can get pretty territorial and tangs can easily get ich. Would it be ok to add the tang, or would the clownfish beat the tang up too much...?

A 46 gallon is too small for a tang.

At the VERY MINIMUM, you should have a 75 gallon with a relatively "open" rockscape.

+1 You have to consider the tang's behavior, as well as its adult size. Yellow tangs get pretty big and are extremely active.

If you want a yellow fish, I would suggest a canary fangblenny, Meiacanthus oualanensis. They're peaceful, active, beautiful, and available captive-bred. Their tiny venomous fangs (no danger to you!) also mean that they can put an aggressive maroon clownfish in her place pretty quickly, although I've never found that other fish harass them. One nip won't harm your clowns, but it will convince them to leave the fangblenny alone.

i'm looking for a fish to eat algae, any suggestions?

toss in more snails/crabs etc, not to mention i'm not sure the tang would survive long enough to start eating all your algea!

ok i have decided not to add a tang anymore. snails dont seem to survive in my tank haha. i have a few red hermit crabs... would adding an emerald crab help?

What about a dwarf angel, they are hit and miss with aglae eating though.

if dwarf angels are a hit and miss, i might get the 'miss' ones...i have such bad luck with fish.... is there a list on the forum for herbivore fish?

what about a 'lemon peel angel' or a 'rainford goby' ? i read they are algae eaters but will they get along with my clowns and anemones?

lawnmower blennies, although considered an ugly duckling by most eat algea all day

i had a lawnmower blenny... i qt'd it for 2 weeks, and when i put it in my tank it almost starved to death, with my algae untouched. i was lucky enough to have caught it and brought it back to the lfs...
