Adding new fish

Have a little problem with fish getting along. How do you introduce new fish to your tank? Seems like every time add the new addition. My tank turns into a gang turf war :uzi:. Doesn't matter what kind of fish is added, the new addition gets bullied and some time to death :headwalls:

I added a Blue throat trigger last night, and my blue, yellow and powder blue tangs would not leave the guy alone. He would hide between the cracks in the live rock and gets his fins nibbled on every time he comes out.

What I normaly do to "Test the waters" is when I first get home I let them float in the bag (as long as its clear). I do more acclamating, this is only to get a glimpse into the future of what is about to happen. I know my trouble maker fish so I watch how he reatcts. If I looks like he is going to rip through the bag to get at the new one. It generaly goes back to the store. If they appear to at least stand each other. I put him in the display after the QT tank.

Biggest problem is order of introduction. Most people add the aggressive fish too soon. Almost all tangs are aggressive, and a fish like a blue throat trigger is more passive. I'd try rearranging the rock work. Typically new fish are harassed the first day or so but tends to calm down. If it continues then you'll need to take action and remove either the trigger or aggressive tangs.

Blue throats are quite wussy, for triggers. How big is the tank? This is a major factor with aggression, especially tangs.

yea love triggers, but figure that's the only one that is considered reef safe. Tank is 175G and all my fishes are in baby stage. 2-3 inches long.

Think i'll place new addition in some sort of mesh cage going forward. Catching the trigger now would be next to impossible due to LR and corals.
