Adding new sand procedure

I have fuji pink sand right now and just got some Tunze's. I have algea on my sand so I am thinking I need more flow (already have refugium, chaeto, mangroves, skimmer, and a phosban reactor).

So I plan on getting larger grains so it don't blow around. (I hope the midas blenny don't mind.)

Can the sand be introduced into the tank with all of the livestock in it? I see warnings on the sand bags warning against covering a deep sand bed. Mine is not deep it is barely there. But with the algea and nitrate bubbles in the bed, I think I'm gonna have problems.

As long as you don't smother the existing sandbed you should be ok. Maybe add a 1/4" today, a 1/4" tomorrow, etc. You want to let things "dig out" so to say.
