Adding Salt Water

Hello Everyone,

I've done my first water change and taken out 20% my salinity in the tank is 1.024 and the pre made salt water I've brought is 1.025 what will be the safest way to add the water to the tank

Thanks All :-)

add small amount of freshwater into the pre made saltwater, check the salinity. add a bit more freshwater if the salinity is more than 1.024. use a refractometer when checking salinities. if you add too much freshwater, the salinity could reach less than 1.024, and in that case, you need to add some salt to get back to 1.024.

if whatever i said above is confusing, just add pre made saltwater with 1.025 salinity into your system using a pump or just simply pour it. since water change is only 20% and the difference between two salinities is only .001, it will not affect the salinity of the system by much. calculated salinity of your system after 20% water change would be 1.0242.

You would be better off leaving the tank at the higher salinity, most of us keep their salinity at 1.025-1.026.

+1. The effects will be negligible. You'll be fine

Corals are surprisingly adaptable, over the years I've seen corals perfectly happy between 1.019 and 1.032 and I "usually" keep salinity in my tanks around 1.022. I also don't worry if the salinity or specific gravity between new water and tank water is different by .002.
