Adding sand?

So I am cleaning my tank and im vacuming up alot of my sand bet and I want to add more sand. Can someone tell me if there is a correct way to do this. I have never added to my bed and I want to make sure I do it correctly. I would like to add a total of an inch more to the entire bed. Thanks

I don't know about a "correct" way, but when I added some to my tank a couple of years ago, I put the sand that I wanted to add into a ziploc bag, then inverted the bag into the tank, lowered it to the sand, and shook the sand out. My tank still got pretty cloudy, but it was better than just dumping the sand in. Good luck!

I guess my question is if I put dry nonactive sand on top of my live sand will it hurt anything?

Hmm. I don't know. I used live sand. I think it would be okay, but I really don't know. Sorry.

Just do it slowly, don't rush and put a fresh layer an 1" thick of new dry sand in the tank all in one day. Add a little bit here, a little bit there over only a small part of the sand bed then wait a week or so and repeat. Pretty soon you'll have it the depth you want.
