Adding Significant Coral and 2 Fish At The Same Time?

Hi All,

Just got a coral shipment in today of about 8 pieces...mostly frags with two larger pieces. My LFS has a 6 Line and a Yellowtail in stock at the same time, which is rare for them. I want to add them both at the same time due to aggression issues if separate, and they would be my last fish. Is this a bad idea to do this all within a day or two?

I wouldn't have a problem with it unless the tank was just very recently cycled or something. If you have had bioload in this tank for more than a few weeks there should be no real issue. I'd probably test for ammonia/nitrite for a few days though.

No QT here. I know, I know...new place will have a new tank and QT. My tank has been up for quite a few months and has been at a 4 fish bioload for quite some time.

I would keep a close eye on it. Do some testing. You are almost doubling the bio load at one time.

Thanks. I don't have an issue holding off on the fish if that's what the popular consensus is. Certainly wouldn't want to crash my tank...just not sure which way I should go on this one.

Like mentioned above as long as the tank has been set up for awhile and is stable, you really shouldn't have any problems adding both the fish and the corals at the same time. If anything your Nitrates might go up a little bit, but I doubt it. GL.

The corals don't add a bioload, depending on what you got they may even help. I would have no problem adding those fish, I just wouldn't up my feeding right away and just make them share.

Yeah, as others have said, having some prime on hand wouldn't be a bad idea. But it wouldn't be bad to get a bottle of starter bacteria to drop in.

Be careful with that 6 line they are very agressive. I have a female leopard and a mystery wrasse they do great together and never fight.

I wouldn't do a sixline personally. Look into possum wrasses or flasher wrasses.

There's a lot of that opinion and also a lot who love their 6lines. I guess it will depend on the specimen, we'll see what happens

Possibly a pod grazer like a mandarin. But that's about it.

No. Quarantine everything wet. They could have something, but just not showing the symptoms yet because they are not stressed. Soon as you buy them and they are put into the bag, the stress begins and chaos starts.

So they have been in the bag for 2 months. Ok, take us for example if we are put somewhere to live then we have to get use to the new location. 2 months is long enough for them to settle in and get use to their new home., but then someone comes by and kidnaps you, and puts you into another place to eat, and sleep at. I bet you will be stressed out. Is the LFS using copper which masks diseases.
