Adult Tennenti Tang Coloration.

One thing my wife pointed out was that on my tang, you can see its teeth as in other tang pictures you cant. Not sure what that is all about?

You can see them in these pictures.. the white sections on his mouth.

Ok so i was trying to look in the tank with the moonlights on because i saw an odd shape in one of the small tunnels. I used a flash light to shine off the rock to see what it was and it was my LT Tang. The funny thing is she was a lighter grey color/olive color and you can see the chevron. I tried to snap a quick picture and the flash went off, so i feel bad for her for that. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but she is definitely lighter than during the day. So is she not as stressed at night?

I caught my tang in our local waters.
It was probably less than 2 inches at the time.
In fact at first I didn't recognise it as a tennenti, it was so black (thought it was a nigrofuscus, when I first spotted it).
Could not even see the "leutenant " markings at first
Here is a pic of it after it has been in my tank for a few weeks.
Currently, its a lot lighter than this.

Beautiful colors!

I looked at mine this morning and she is a ligher shade more of an olivish color. You can see the markings today, where as any other day it blended in with it's body. Maybe its coming around and starting to adjust a bit better. Still eats like a pig which is good.

I have been following this thread for a couple if days and love the tennenti tangs! May I ask how big they get, and how big of a tank would be recommended? They aren't in the tank sizes for tangs thread so I thought I would ask. I want one but thought I would see if it would fit.

A LFS had a tenneti caught in the wild at what we assumed was pretty much max adult length, it was around 10-11" and hugely fat.

I've never seen another one bigger than that. Most fish dont seem to get quite as big in captivity as they do in the wild, so if you get a young one I'd bet you could count on somewhere between 6-8" easily for adult length.

As such, I'd say like most tangs you want a 6' tank minimum, preferably larger.

Would you think it would be okay in my 125 gallon tank? If it would I would probably do one with a PBT. I would add the tennenti first though as it isn't as aggressive as the PBT I would assume. Does the extra six inch depth between a 125 and 180 make a huge difference to tangs(obviously to the larger ones that are more than 18")? I read up a little bit on them and liveaquaria says 180 gallon, but I wouldn't think the extra six inches makes that much of a difference does it?
