Advice again

This forum must be sick of me asking questions, but I do appreciate the answers.

I have had comments on here about my future plans for fish in my tank. I was going to add 2 clowns next in a couple of weeks time. I have a small cuc and a lawnmower blenny at the moment. I have various soft corals too that seem to be growing nicely. I want to put in a fire shrimp eventually too. Would I have space for another small fish? Something like a royal gramma?

Anyway this is about the clowns. Some people say 2 would be fine in my tank others say not to put them in. Please help.

Get a pair, like an actual somewhat bonded pair of same type and don't worry about the sex, they work that put on their own lol. Not Maroon clowns, they get big.

You've asked the same question again. Can you put 2 clowns in a 25g tank? Sure. Will they be happy? IMO, probably not. Will you be able to add any other fish? Maybe short term, but the clowns will almost certainly bully them to death. Have others done it successfully? Depends on your definition of successful. Clownfish can easily live 10-15 years if given adequate living space. I would question just how long those "successful" keepers of clowns in small tanks have actually kept them not just alive, but thriving.

It seems as if you are just looking for someone to give the ok to do what you are planning on doing anyway, so go ahead. Hopefully it will work out ok.

I would think about that Royal Gramma, or a couple firefish, a goby/shrimp pair, or maybe a few dartfish, but that's just me.

I just had mixed opinions, it was getting confusing. Will go for a royal gramma and fire shrimp next in few weeks time. Then after that a goby and shrimp pair hopefully the lawnmower blenny will leave them alone, he seems happy in the caves near the top of the rock.

Are you using RODI water for your tank? It appears to me you aren't or your phosphates are really high.

I kept a bonded pair of clowns in an 11.4 gallon for a couple years but I sold them when I moved. Were they happy? They can't talk but they looked happy to me.

Using ro water from Lfs. Doing water changes to reduce phosphate levels. Down to 0.5 last week. Doing another 25 litre change today.

I would highly recommend getting your own with a TDS meter.

RO is definitely not... RODI is but the filters need to be changed regularly or the contaminates will get through. A TDS meter will measure the contaminates. My RODI unit has a meter but you can buy your own. I personally would not trust water from a LFS.

Absolutely... Get a TDS meter so you'll know when to change the filters. I always shoot for 0 ppm.

It will work, but the need for proprietary filters could make it expensive in the long run. Take a look at www.buckeyehydro.com (my go-to) or www.bulkreefsupply.com They sell standard sized units with readily available replacement cartridges, and all at a very good price.

Very good point... I wouldn't buy a unit with proprietary filters either. That's how they stick it to ya.

Skip that.

Get a BRS 4 stage value and upgrade it a little every month. In a few months you can have a 6 stage water saver plus.

I found a used 4 stage and bough a few upgrade kits from BRS and now I make as much RODI as I do waste, two TDS meters to monitor, input, after RO, after first DI, after last DI.

Making your own water is cheap and sooo satisfying, the peace of mind you get when you know for a fact that the water you make is the best possible! What good is buying all that salt to put it into shitty water, literally.
