Advice for my small aquarium

Crow2

New member
Hey guys...So I started my first marine aquarium (12.5 AquaEuroUSA) about two weeks ago, and everything seems to be going well. I got everything from my LFS, including one bag (20lbs?) of LS and about 9lbs of LR and real sea water from their 'Catalina Island' supply. I have had a small percula clown in there for about 13 days, which seems very healthy/active and will try to eat anything that floats around. About 7 days ago I added a small longnose hawkfish and a maroon starfish. The hawk has really taken to the aquarium and seems to be more comfortable each day, finding every spot to perch as well as swimming around quite often. The hawk also loves the frozen shrimp, but will not eat any flakes. The starfish just roams around, but seems to like the spot on the glass directly in the flow of the filter pump. Everyone seems to get along just fine with no issues, and the hawk and clown seem to have almost grown used to having each other around, occasionally bumping into each other. SO...I am thinking about adding one more fish (maybe two at the most, but I doubt it), and need some advice as to which species to go for. I am leaning towards some type of Angel, maybe a Flame. I plan on filling the tank with various corals, so keep that in mind. Anyway, I would really appreciate any thoughts/suggestions/instructions, so please feel free to let me know what you would do..I will post a pic or two soon...Many Thanks

Welcome to the best hobby there is!

Here are some thoughts.

It's too early to put a starfish in your tank and a tank of your size will likely never be able to support one. They are very difficult in general. I would suggest your return it to your LFS.

If your tank is 12.5 gallons, you're basically already over-stocked in terms of bioload. In addition, a dwarf angel would need a larger tank IMO, maybe 40 gallons.

As your clown grows, you may find even just that and the hawk are too much. Or it could work with enough water changes.

But fear not, you'll be wanting a bigger tank sooner than later. :fun4:

Good luck.
