Advice on 75 gallon Tank

OK. So I am new to the forums and the reefing game. I have been running a 55g softie tank for about 3 months. I need to break it down due to my floors being redone. I am resetting up in a 75g RR tank. I am planning a 3" sandbed. Right now I have about 60 lbs of rock and a goby, YT, and a pair of perculas. I am looking for ideas on aquascape, how many more lbs of LR I need, and how many more fish in the future I can add, also which would be good choies. Thanks

I dunno about most people but I love the arch type aquascaping. With two piles of LR on either side of the tank and a bridge between them about 1/2 - 3/4 way up the tank. But that's just me.

I have heard about 1lb of LR per gallon, or more. I would say that 60 would suffice you for right now, but maybe 75-80 lbs would be ideal. For filtering purposes.

General rule of thumb for SW fish is one inch of fish per 5 gallons. So following that rule, about 15 inches of fish. Some people do more than that, some do less than that. Just depends on how committed you are.

One thing I can suggest, is try to keep some of your old water while your floors are being redone. This will help with the new tank cycle. Get a trash can or something of the sort that won't leak, but some water in there with a powerhead and a heater.

Thanks for the sugestions. As for the water I am purchasing a complete set up so I am taking all of his water in order to keep the cycle down. I have a small 12 tank also that I am doing water chnges t wiht my current water to hold the fish in until I ge the other set up.

As for fish: would adding a blue hippo be too much with my YT in a 75 g??

I'm not that far into this hobby yet. But I've heard they take alot of room. But then again, most LFS only keep them in 20-40g tanks anyway. Your best bet for that is to ask someone who has one.

IMO 2 tangs in a 75 gal. is to much the yellow is good but a hippo will outgrow the tank also they need lots of swimming room. as for other fish stick with the smaller fish as the YT takes up most of the bioload

as for how much LR go with 1.5-2lbs per gal. so 100lbs-150lbs should work fine.

I've seen many successful 75's with the two tangs that you mention, but they are fish that like to swim. Consider going 95 or 125 if you really want those fish to be happy.

Another 50lbs of rock would be enough. I have 3 powerheads (mj1200) and a closed loop in my 75g, but I also have a lot of corals. Even if you don't have corals, I would add at least one more mj1200, or a closed loop.

tang police watchout.... hahah..

but in a 75, I would go with a total of 125lbs of rock especially if you are using it as more part of your filtration for your reef.

Also... If I ahve 60 lbs of LR could I add 50 lbs of Marcos Rock?? Would there be enough filtration??

I have a 72 gallon bowfront and got 50 lbs of Marco rock. It is very light and took up a ton of room in my tank. I have that plus 20lbs of live rock to seed it and my tank is loaded. I think I am going to pull and resell the live rock after the Marco rock is seeded.

I'd get some seio's, the new hydor pumps, a tunze or drill your tank for a closed loop. MJ's just don't cut it for flow in a big tank.
