Advice on Best 220 Reef Tank Skimmer

Please help me decide on the best skimmer for my 220 reef tank build. I will be using a 100 gallon rubbermaid trough as a sump in the basement. I was considering the Reef Flow or the Bubble Magus. Give any ideas on what has worked best for you.

I have a Reef Octopus sss3000int on my 225 and have seen others have great luck with them. Im still setting up my system now though so we are sorta in the same boat.

It will depend on how heavy you stock but i use a deltec tc 2560 on my 250g and it was my best investment yet.

I've got a reef octopus 5000SSS internal skimmer on my 300 gallon and it has done very well. I couldnt be happier with it, I would highly recommend it. I think the 3000 series may be a bit small on a 240 gallon system, particularly if you're going to stock it heavily, but I do like the reef octopus line (I've run mine for over 3 years now).

Thanks CRV for the input. I am leaning toward the Reef Octopus myself. My local fish store has a banging deal on a Reef Octopus Diablo DCS 200 for 350.00 brand new. do you think it would be big enough?

I would skip the Diablo. They use gen1 DC pumps which have problems.
I use one as a return pump for my 180/20L, the power supply only lasted a month and the pump it self stop working after 7 months. I replace it with a Hagen Fluval Sea SP6.

Thanks at 350.00 it just seems like such a good deal

Price may seem good but if it's not a good fit for your system it's not a good deal. I'm not familiar with that particular model, so I can't speak to it's reliability. It claims to be about the right size, but I always like to go a little bigger than manufacturer ratings on a skimmer. For your size tank, I would probably get one a step above that model (and maybe one with a better pump per adam's comment).

You are probably right and the pump concerns me also
