option #1 I have a tank now that has a maroon/white stripe in it now and would like to add a maroon/gold stripe they are the same size.If this is a problem

option #2 would be to put in another tank that has a Allardi clown about the same size

Would either option work ?

Neither option will work, but you can add a very small gold stripe maroon to the unpaired white stripe with plans to pair them. If you add one the same size as the resident clown, one will be killed as they're both female (unless yours is really young still and new). Maroons are hard to pair, though.

Here is a link to pairing clowns. There is a special section for maroons: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=215098

If it's 3" and alone it's very most likely female by now. Sometimes 1-1.5" captive bred gold stripes show up, so look for one of those.

Different kinds of clowns don't normally get along unless they pair up, which is a risky bet with anything but mixing say percula and ocellaris. I've never even heard of an allardi pairing with a maroon before, so I'd have to say no.
