OK, I just got a small octopus this morning from fishsupply.com for my 30 gal. I did'nt see any eye spots on him but they said it was a bimac and apparently they have a good rep at IDing them. Acclimation took about 45 min. and he attacked and pounced on some small shrimp from the LR 5 minutes after I put him in the tank. This was VERY cool to watch. I put in 3 baby mollies which he also took care of in about 5 minutes. For the first couple of hours he was very active moving around. The thing I'm worried about is now he's hiding and not coming out at all. I kind of expected him to be shy at first then get more active later. It makes me think he's reacting to bad water conditions OR he's just settling in and resting. My tank's been running about 3 months now. I use a full size Kent Hi-s for all my water, salinity at 1.026, pH at 8.16, alk at 8dKH, nitrates at 0, temp at 75. It's a berlin style tank with no mech filtration and a Red Sea classic skimmer. I figure this takes care of his O2 requirements, and my parameters are all what they should be. Am I just being paranoid or should I be worried???? I know that octos are usually very inactive, but his boldness at first was surprising...
