Advice / opinion on Candy Cane

I bought my first LPS (candy cane) about three months ago while I only had 15 watts of 10k and 15 watts of actinic. It took a little longer to get my lighting situation taken care of but now it is in place. When I got the candy cane it would swell up and extend its sweepers but now it does not look so good. Now I have 250 watts of MH at about 4 inches above the water in a 25 inch deep tank with the candy cane near the bottom. My question is, will it make a comeback or will I have to live with the fact that I have killed my first coral? It still has color, it just is not as "thick" as it was before. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you acclimate it to your lights or did you just switch out your 30watts and put in the 250w and turn it on?

If you did then the lighting difference is probably your problem. My LFS only has flourescent lighting so when I buy new corals and put them in my tank with 2x250w MH's,I get some screen that us used for windows or screen doors and layer it over the tank.Every other day I remove one peice which increases the intensity of the light and my coral will slowy get used to the change.Eventually you won't have any screens and a happy coral:)

I understand the acclimation process. I am just curious as to weather or not it will come back from being in poor lighting for about three months. Sorry if I was unclear before.

I see it with its mouths (3 of them) open from time to time and I turn off my pumps and drop mysis directly on them about once a week. I'll try to get a pic but the camera doesn't like my tank.

Try to get them to eat twice a week. Also try to put them in a shaded area and see if that helps.
