Okay, so I decided to set up a QT tank before putting the new corals in my main tank. I've QT'd, now what do I do?
The new coral is a pink pocillapora (sp?) and I'm watching it every day. The first day I noticed that there were two little brown spots on it. The one had a larger sweeper fan-like tenacle popping in and out it (feeding I assume) and the other had two little tenacles sticking out of it. I'm not sure if it's normal for the pocillapora to act as a host to the unkown critters, or if this is something that I should treat.
The first area reminds me of a very toned-down christmas tree worm in the way it extends and retracts its fan. It is located in a "v" area of the coral.
The second area with the two little tenacles, is in a knubby area of the coral, but the tips of these knubs are white, where the tips of all the other knubby areas are pretty pinkish-purple. So I'm worried that something is eating this part of the coral.
I have been researching, but keep coming up with red bug, flatworms or nudibranches. I've ruled out the first two pests, and am not sure of the nudibranch since I'm not sure if one would live inside a coral or simply feast on it from the external local.
I'd appreciate any guidance in determining the safety of this situation with my new coral.
Thanks.
Diane
