I have lost 95% of my Acros due to these pests and have decided to start over by running my tank without acros for 3 months. Either the colonies succumbed to the pests or they were thrown out due to a large egg infestation. An observation that I accidently stumbled upon while using the Turkey Baster eradication method was the following:
When I was blowing the pests of of my colonies with a small powerhead, I occasionally inadvertently made contact between the pump and the infested colony. The vibration of the pump motor was transferred to the coral skeleton and caused worms to instantly release from the colonies. I wonder if placing infested colonies in a bath similar to those "wet" foot massagers with whirlpool action would be effective in knocking the worms off of the corals. The massage function actually causes high frequency standing waves in the water that just might knock the worms off of infested corals. This would be great if it worked since it could avoid a chemical dip and would work instantly. Or maybe this could be used in conjunction with the Levamisole to shorten and/or reduce the duration/number of treatments.
If anyone has these AEFWs and one of those foot massages, maybe you could experiment with this method and post your results here. I would do it but all my acros (except for a few frags treated with Levamisole), and thus AEFWs, are gone right now.
Please post any comments and/or observations regarding this potential treatment in this thread.
