Hi,
I use to import them, but do not have any left...Think about doing Tangyanikans instaed of malawians . They come in smaller sizes and you can get good color . Another type to think of is Victorians, the color is incredible. Send me an email and Ill send some pics of the vics..just my 2 cents.....

General advice:

1) Vic's are the most aggresive of the three
2) Tanganyikans the most sensitive (esp tropheus)
3) Malawians are the most readily avail.

I keep mbuna from Malawi, I'll have fry for sale at the end of the summer.

I have to disagree abit about the vics... you have to take them on a case by case basis...hippo points and dayglow for instance are mild mannered fish.. the nyerei can be hellers but malawis can be as bad or worse...
Tangs are actually quite tough....Tropheus ,I agree can be sensitive but if fed properly do alright...
Malawians might be more available unless you look in the right places......

the settup is going to be 65g and 40g/55g sump/breeder tank.
overflow box and mag7/9.5 denpending on the flow rate of the overflow box. it going to the same as asaltwater settup. i am going to try my 175 mh i have. if it to much and i am getting alge going down to vho's.

what do you guys think?

ok..you know them? i am on a long waiting list for those fish.
i forgot about how many people where still in the cichlids things..i benen reefing to long..

I'm not sure about the lighting, they color up more with dimmer light. Bluer light does bring out the colors tho, i've found that 10k or 50/50 bulbs really show them off.

Stephany,
I used to have them ...I bred them. and occaisionally brought in wild caughts. when I had my business I had 112 tanks with Victorians ,Malawi and Tangyanikans.
I used to use full spectrum and a regular daylight bulb over all my tanks. That way you got good coloring of the fish and a decent light spectrum for algae and the like.

That's super cool James, when are you gonna do a saltwater store? We neeeeed one. :P

With the fish he has linked... there is a possibility of them interbreeding, isn't there?

i will pair them off when they're ready. imo if they do they look pretty kool.IMO.
i only can it will be better then your regural lighting. we see.

st.james i didn't get them. you can send to my email. svasavon@harris.com.

that would be great if you can hook it up. i am looking for the blue, red, and gold. maybe the gold, blue and red fins. like i said i would like 3 or 4 females per male. so that would make 15 fish in a 65g. wow that bad, but it going to looking great.
