Age of tank before trying a clam?

I have always, always wanted a clam but on my previous tanks did not have nearly enough lighting.

On this tank I have a 65 gallon tank with 2x250 15k MH. I think that should be enough for a clam, as long as it is mid to top of the tank.

I have 2 fish in the tank (midas blenny and firefish goby) but will be trapping them and taking them back to the store I got them from. I kind of changed my mind on my stocking list and so am going to run the tank fish-free for a few months while I settle on it, rather than making another stocking error. Right now I'm much more focused on the non-fish livestock and really kind of want to enjoy that adventure before I go for fish, hence the backtrack.

Anyway...

The tank has been going now for about 5 months and is doing extremely well. I have some of the easier SPS thriving, as well as a few LPS and softies.

At what future time can I consider adding a clam and hoping it will do well? I am not sure how much tank maturity plays into how well a clam does, and want to have the best chance of success.

They do best with a very well-established tank; I never had luck under a year, but it sounds as if your tank is really thriving. Still, why not give it a month or to more to be sure?

No problem at all with waiting, just needed to know when the right time was to think about it!

Thank you for the information, much appreciated. =)
