AGE vs. Miracles Aquariums

Does anyone know where to get quotes from either of them?

Which do you prefer and why?

I have only seen AGE in person and I was impressed. I would like to get others opinions on both. Thanks.

buying from canada will cost a fortune for shipping and I think their tanks are a little more expensive. But they are very nice quality from what I have heard. Many have the AGE and if and when I purchase a larger tank that is the way I will go because of the pvc bottom that make them lighter weight. Some others that have them my comment. Ed (eddybaby) has one and I think he is pleased.

I have had 2 AGE tanks. Tom is an absolutely amazing craftsman. He uses the absolute best silicone's on the market (yes there is a difference between the stuff you get at Home Depot), he has a proprietary technique for getting silicone to adhere to PVC, not to mention a state of the art facility he uses.

Forget the fact that he is just a fantastic guy, and his company is 100% American!

I got a quote for my tank from MA, and the crate and freight was 1500.

Thanks Eddy, I appreciate the input. What other aquarium makers are out there worth taking a look at. Though still early I am leaning to the A.G.E. direction.

I'm biased, so cant really answer that one. But I will tell you, of the manufacturers that are of similar quality, I would say AGE is going to be your best bet anyways, if anything, because its coming from Dallas, and freight isn't going to kill you money wise.

Its the little things that AGE does, that other companies wont give you. For example, if Tom quotes you a 72x24x29 tank, and he figures he is going to have waste pieces left over. He will tell you, if he can make a bigger tank from the same cut pieces.

So if he can make you a 72x36x29, using the same amount of material cost on his end, then guess what? You end up with a bigger tank for the same amount of money.

Trust me, I know. My tank is 72x36x29, wink wink :)

Wow that actually sounds fantastic. Do you know how I would go about contacting them. Their website has some phone numbers but they implied for commercial vendors to contact them.

+1 for AGE

You order AGE tanks through your LFS...unless Ed and others got special deals, they only sell through your LFS...

Any rough estimates on how much starphire kicks up the cost? I know its probably dependant on size...

It is a good bet to account for starphire to be double the cost of plate.

For example, when my tank was built, 1/2 inch starphire was 60.00 a square foot.

I have heard it has been close to 90 lately, but i dont know that for sure.

... 3/4" thickness, right?

That's an amazing number, Ed.

I would say with no reservations at all to go with AGE. It is true you have to go through a store to order the tank and not directly. Ed and I originally went through the store ART for our tanks, but they are not in business anymore.

My tank is a work of art. The polishing of the edges and the seams is outstanding- add to that the fact that my tank is pretty much one-of-a-kind being a hybrid....then yes, I would absolutely say go with AGE.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am going to try and start getting some quotes. Their website and am email I received said that they do have online dealers. Does anyone know who their online dealers are?

local dealer

local dealer

Aquariums in Edmond for sure is a dealer for them...(that's who originally ordered my tank and stand...)

You can see the one I have in my build thread - a very unique design, but typical of an A.G.E. tank...

Unless the price difference was just astronimical, I would prefer going through a LFS, for one just to support them and two if there is a problem in shipping, I assume they would be the ones dealing with the problem.

Is wetpets a dealer for them?

No, neither Wet Pets or Crystal Clear are dealers, but after talking to Steve he said he would "look into it".

I get the impression all it takes is a phone call from your LFS.

I know some stores will sell to their regular customers at "cost" - because they know if you buy your tank and stand there, you're likely to come back often to get your reef crack "fix"... :D

Just what I hear in the grapevine... :rolleye1:

Brandon,

I just spoke with Gary Walker, who I ordered my tank through. He told me to give you his details in case you wanted to get a quote.

here they are:

Hope that helps.

---seems I was wrong and Gary is very much alive and still doing the aquarium thing.
