Aggressive reef compatibility?

Ok so my brother loves triggers and wants to do a reef. So I was thinking I know stuff like green star polyps, shrooms and leathers will work with triggers, but what about puffers? And what other corals might they not bother?

The tank will house, one or two triggers, a lion, a few tangs and a large wrasse, and if possible a puffer.

What do you think?

I would love to get a trigger, from what I read is they will leave corals alone as long as they are fed enough but the are not safe with snails or crabs. Which would mean an algae outbreak with no snails. Anyone know if triggers would mess with tiger tail cukes..?
I also like the blue throat trigger but I am worried either of these fish will cause problems in the reef. I think puffers are even more dangerous..

Im not to worried about algea, I have had good luck with using 2-3 tangs/angel for algea control. and it will of course have no snails or crabs in there.

niger triggers and some others are "considered" reef safe. however fish are individuals. you may get lucky you may not anyhow shrooms around here are about 3$ per head so thats not that expensive of a snack id just get a single see how it goes. I want to say that blue throats are also "safe"not bothering my snails or urchins those and the nigers imo would be the ones to try.

I have a nice pink tail trigger in my reef and i have never see him bother my banded coral, fire shrimp, camelbacks or my snails. hes alot of fun to watch. only downside to him is he a food hog eating much faster then most reef fish and stealing my golden dwarf moray's food. good luck

My bluethroat trigger is a model citizen with clams, corals, and inverts. Thay're naturally planktivores but I've heard horror stories...

With valentini puffer these corals worked:

Kenya tree, green hairy mushrooms, red mushrooms, gsp, bsp, white xenia, anthelia, frogspawns and hammers, sun coral (tried once, that's all), candycane, chili, lemnalia, yellow polyps, gorgonians.

Not sure about the puffer, but the Xanthichthys genus of triggers are considered mostly reef safe. They arent planktivores so much, but are found to eat from the water column much more often than picking the substrate like other triggers. Some shrimp may get picked on if they're caught dancing around the tank and bringing attention to themselves, but corals, snails, crabs, or other inverts should be safe.

I have a blue jaw trigger living in harmony with all types of corals and inverts. I have 6 shrimp that dance all around the tank that he never even looks at.

I've seen very few reef tanks with puffers in them but I know they're out there, I just don't know enough about it.

In a 120, I have a small toby (Canthigaster jactator I think), a red coris, a small Apolemichthys xanthurus angel, and previously had a blue throat trigger. My clownfish do more damage in one day than all of the "less reef safe" fish do in a month. I don't try to keep snails, hermits or shrimp though.

I don't think these invertebrates are good algae control. Clean water and high flow is good algae control. Tangs, lawnmower blennies and urchines eat a lot more algae and are easier to keep alive when the algae is gone.

im talking more like what corals would be safe with a empirator, or queen angles, and picaso/clown triggers, and a stripped puffer and the like.

I know what critters are safe in a reef. I want to know what reef stuff will be safe in an aggressive tank.

So far im just thinking mushrooms and leathers.
